Hat Yai Food

The Chinese restaurants in Hat Yai are delivering excellent exotic food.

The restaurants are always good for an exotic twist, I am always mesmerized what they are cooking and what the people are eating. Among others they offer ducks tongue, backed goose legs, fried sea leech, real birds nest soup, sharks fin soup and so on.

I guess this delicacies is one of the reasons why so many Chinese come from Malaysia and even Singapore for an extended day trip over the weekend.

They also offer "sharks fin soup" but the authorities try to convince them not to put it on the menu anymore.

It needs to keep in mind that at least 90% of the clients in the restaurants are Malaysian and Singapore Chinese and they just have an exotic taste. I am always not very positive when I see this "western gooddoer" finger-pointing at them.

Here is a great exotic melange of Thai, Malaysian, Chinese and some local cuisine which makes a trip to Hat Yai a tropical pleasure with great foodstuff.

Here is a blend of  Asian food from regions already well known for good things to eat either in normal restaurants, food courts or just hawker and tasty street food. Since the ocean is not far away everyday fresh seafood is available. They sell fried lobsters in different sizes in the evening at the big square in front of the Lee Garden Hotel in the city center.

Thai food is characterized by the common hot and spicy flavoring; Malaysian can also get quite hot with curry meat and vegetable combinations, noodle, rice and dumplings. Indian flavors are available either with meat but also purely vegetarian plus saffron-flavored and tandoori dishes can be tried plus Nonya food from Penang which is just about 300 km to the south.

The only problem at the "grand square" is it is not possible to sit down and eat since the three tables they have are always occupied, I wonder what this people are thinking maybe that everyone is eating when standing? There are many things in Thailand somebody better don.t ask why.
