Pretty waterfronts are plenty but only a few are in the top league.
One of the most attractive is Bangtao Beach, that is around 6 km of light yellow sand and has most high-end luxury resorts behind which is Laguna. The lagoons are filled up old tin mines from around 200 years ago located about half way between the town and airport. This is one of the most expensive areas, at the same time quite boring.

Erecting ugly structures for restaurants, its illegal but money makes it possible, also some shops are around.

Phuket luxury hotels, villas and expensive shopping are around Canal Village, there is also a supermarket which has to abandon whisky and stock only vodka now, time is changing. There is also a good wine and champagne section in this small supermarket.

Nai Thon Beach |
Since about 2008 a dramatic change of visitors has taken place on the island, many European and "western" disappeared. Russians, Kazakhstan, Uzbek, Chinese etc. moved in. The statistics of the Thai TAT counts the people but don't know that the new tourists spend much less, that means the small Thai people, shop owners etc. suffer.

Behind to the north are some more great waterfronts such as Nai Thon Beach, Nai Yang and Mai Khao. All have their special touch, such as Nai Yang for kite surfing, Nai Thon to be alone and
Mai Khao Beach again for the upscale resort market

This is one of the best waterfronts on the island the little problem is the stretch is almost at the north end of the island about 40 km from town and Patong. Only a few km from Sarasin Bridge which at the end connects into Phangnga Province, further to Krabi and the south plus to Bangkok and the north.
Naya Beach is just before Nai Harn when coming from the south or Rawai |

This temple cum monastery is about 200 meters behind the beach in the usual style which is very similar all over Thailand except the north. In Cambodia newer temples look similar, old one are Angkor style.
